Why this website?

I was a young teacher at Taymouth Castle School way back in 1971. Even though I was only there for a relatively short time (just under a year), my stay at the school had a powerful effect on my life. I have many fond memories of the place and the people. However, I had to leave fairly abruptly at the beginning of the new school year, and I was never able keep in touch with any of my student and staff friends. I've been back twice since those great days (the castle is still there but it is no longer in use, and has been for sale for some time), but I've never come across any of the former students or staff.

So, recently I made a determined effort - using the Web - to track down some of the people whose full names I remembered. I got close - a couple of e-mail addresses were left on the Taymouth Castle Golf Club website by former students - but they were no longer current. Also, I tracked down a former student of Herringswell Manor School and Aberdeen International School (both originally owned by Mr McCormick who set up the Taymouth Castle School). He remembered Miss Bomhoff, who was the headmistress at Taymouth - she apparently moved to AIS in 1973. I guess this was when the Taymouth operation closed down. But that's about as close as I've been able to get!

I was surprised to find that there is no website for old students and staff of the school and that no one has listed the school in any of the numerous alumni sites on the Web. So, I thought I'd better do something about it myself. My great hope is that former students and staff will come across this site in dribs and drabs and forward their contact details and, perhaps, some materials that can be added to the site (old - and new - photos, memoirs, anecdotes, greetings, anything that is relevant). Eventually, we may get everyone listed. An even greater hope, however, is that at some time in the future we'll be able to actually have a reunion - perhaps in Kenmore? What a great day that would be.

So, please, if you attended Taymouth Castle School during its brief existence, get in touch with me via the CONTACT section - even if it's just to say hello; it'll assure me that it all wasn't just a wonderful dream.

P.S. Since writing the above, I've found an old folder in which I kept bits and pieces of documentation about the school, so I now have a full 1971 list of students and staff (see ALUMI, List), and class lists, schedules, etc. (see MEMORIES, Images and Documents). Also, I've now, after all these years, finally made contact. Yippee!
